100 Artworks for a Koala!

Updated: May 29, 2020

My wildlife artist friend Jo Pearcy, of Jo's Desktop, let me know about this great new initiative "100 Artworks for a Koala" being organised by G Henshaw and his team at Living with Koalas, check out the project at the link below:

The concept is to get 100 Australian based artists to provide an original artwork – painting, collage, photograph, digital art, street art, sculpture, glass, ceramic… featuring a koala, eucalyptus, bush fires or a combination; and then auction off the originals in the USA (hopefully at the G'Day Australia event).

They will also have a touring (or online) exhibition, sell limited edition fine prints of the artworks, and use the final images for a book / exhibition catalogue, posters, postKards, greeting Kards and various merchandise to raise money for koala conservation.

Both Jo and I have signed up! You can see us listed on the web page above and our Artists' Profiles have been added to the website.

My Artist Profile is here:

I am donating my original scratchboard:

“Koala on Gum”

Size: 13 x 18 cm

Medium: Ampersand Scratchbord (unframed)

Technique: Scratchboard drawing

Artist statement about the piece – This piece, “Koala on Gum”, was the first scratchboard artwork I completed after learning the technique in 2018. The detailed texture of the Koala’s fur juxtaposed against the interesting tree bark creates a striking visual impact in the scratchboard medium, where every scratch is meticulously made with differing pressure to achieve an effective tonal contrast. I have a passion for Koala conservation, after studying Landscape Ecology at UQ in 2015, under Professor Clive McAlpine, whose research is dedicated to the preservation of Koala populations and habitat.

We also received a lovely wee children's book about koalas from Living with Koalas, for our participation (see photos below).
